Departure
Departure
At the Lucerne train station you get fitted on to your Swiss made e-bike.
The Bike tour starts at the Lucerne train station. We ride through town on a dedicated bike lane and pass the 8th century Hof Church / Church of St. Leodegar that marks the beginning of Lucerne.
We ascend easily up to the Dietschiberg hill and stop for one of the best views of Lucerne.
The trip continues through Lucerne’s first established golf course in 1925 with great views of the surrounding alps and countryside. We cruise cruising downhill on gravel packed roads and pass farm houses that sell locally produced food from their garages.
Payment is with the honor system: put money in the box with a slot. The non-alcoholic apple cider is a favorite.
The Route
The route continues through small villages on narrow bike roads. There will be some riding along a car driven country road – but with a dedicated bike lane.
Then we shift to a dedicated bike road with Mt. Rigi and the central Swiss alps as your view. We stop off at a local water fountain, top off our water bottles while watching the horses grazing by the nearby horse farm.
We then enter the small lakeside resort of Kuessnacht am Rigi and avoid the traffic by taking side roads.
We soon arrive at the historic “Hohle Gasse” where one can listen and see the William Tell story told by a unique audio-visual presentation.
This is place where the legendary William Tell shot Gessler. There is also a historic William Tell chapel worth a stop and visit.
We continue the ride and soon are riding along Lake Zug and pass through the village of Arth and cross the train station area in Goldau.
We pass by a nature area consisting of wetlands and ride through a combination of gravel and paved roads.
Soon we are riding along the Lake Lauerz and pass by the Schwanau island where a first class restaurant is a great place for a special meal.
Ride to Brunnen - Lunch -Boat Ride Return to Lucerne
Afterwards we soon reach Brunnen through some back trails and scenic roads.
After a leisurely stay in Brunnen, we board a lake steamer for a scenic and relaxing two-hour boat ride back to Lucerne.
Our goal is the lakeside resort of Brunnen where we stop for lunch (not included). We visit the Victorinox Swiss Army Knife Visitor Center and collect our pre-ordered Swiss Army pocket knife.
After a leisurely stay in Brunnen we board a lake steamer for a scenic and relaxing two-hour boat ride back to Lucerne.
