Meet your guide at 07:45 am directly at your hotel in Lucerne. If you’re not staying in Lucerne, you will meet them at the Lucerne Torbogen.

Train leaves promptly at 8:10 am.

Your Guided Day Hike From Lucerne begins with a 45-min train ride from Lucerne to the famous mountain resort of Engelberg at 1,000 m /3,000 ft. There we board a bus that takes us past the 12th century Benedictine monastery and drops us at the end of the valley at the Fuerenalp aerial cable car station. Here we board the aerial cable car for another ascent up to 1,850 m /5,550 ft and into the midst of snow-capped mountains and glaciers towering at 3,000 m /9,000 ft around us.

After marveling at the views, we start our descent on a well-maintained and market “Wanderweg” path back to the valley. We continue on a level signposted path and hike on a plateau overlooking the Engelberg valley with eye level views to the surrounding 3000 m / 9000 ft mountain peaks. After 30 minutes of easy hiking the path narrows and we start descending to a three building place called Abnet 1650m/4950ft.

Depending on everyone’s ability and interest, we can either take the 4-seat cable car and ride down to our lunch stop at Staefeli or continue on our path to Stauber 1630 m/4890 ft where there is a major stream and the legendary place that explains why the Canton of Uri has a bulls head on their cantonal flag.

We can either take a picnic along or we can stop for a lunch at an Alpine restaurant.

After our lunch stop will continue on a broad level road for about 1 ½ hours back to the Fuerenalp cable car station. We hike along the stream and enter a very nice shaded forest area before coming to a large open pasture where many of the paragliders are seen landing.

From the Fuerenalp cable car station a local bus returns us to Engelberg with time left to check out the monastery or the quaint village before boarding the train back to Lucerne.

We’ll be back in Lucerne around 5 pm.
